Sophia is a pathfinder (yes, I did give myself that moniker). I’m also a 1.5 generation Filipina American who values curiosity and wonder as I navigate the world. I work alongside individuals and communities at the intersections of justice, equity, belonging, and sustainability as we do the brave and hard work of imagining the world we want to build, and animating others to create a more just society where all may thrive.

I’ve spent my professional career in the non-profit and higher education spaces and some of my past work includes: director of equity and language services for a school district, director of communications at a large Research 1 institution, communication and engagement manager roles for large faith-based organizations and nonprofit organizations, and equity lead for public/government institutions. My training in education and digital media has allowed me to bridge seemingly disparate spaces as I resource individuals and organizations at the intersections of social change while exploring emerging communication tools. I am also a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory®--the premier cross-culturally valid assessment for building cultural competence.

I’m a board member of the Bonney Lake Food Bank, whose mission is to provide equitable access to nutritious food, with dignity, to those neighbors facing food insecurity.

Much of my life's work has involved communication, advocacy, and engagement in the areas of immigration, economic justice, healthcare, homelessness, climate justice, and educational access.

I do life with my spouse, our toddler, adult daughter, and three pups. I am the daughter of a retired United Methodist clergyperson and public health nurse, am ate (older sister) to two and tita (auntie) to six.

What People Are Saying

Sophia has been a great partner in my EDI work. Her knowledge and insights into intercultural work environments across corporate, education, non-profit, and faith-based organizations have made her a go-to resource. She often shares personal, relatable anecdotes that aid clients in both understanding and embracing new revelations about themselves, their work environments, and other cultures.

“I am reminded of how fortunate we are to have you working with us especially now when everyone is calling on you to help guide us through this online education and ministry world. You and your expertise joined us at the perfect time and now that we are getting the full benefit, I know we couldn't manage this without you.” — Marie M.

“Sophia is a gifted creative who can create inspiring and engaging content for a variety of audiences. Sophia also has a great critical eye for analyzing material and offering constructive feedback on work.” — Michelle W.

Sophia has managed the social media of two of our brands. She’s an expert in finding the voice of the brands and beautifully and powerfully communicating timely messages to the customer. She doubled the number of likes our weaker brand over the last two years. I could not recommend her more highly and look forward to working with her again.
